And that’s pretty much it! Like many other indie games, this is a clear attempt to revive a dead genre and it succeeds with flying colors. Do you think fixed camera angles, convoluted puzzles, and limited saves are the devil and that RE sucked before RE4? Then don’t buy this game. I absolutely loved this game and is my Game of the Year for 2022, however its impossible for me to give it a score any higher than a 7 due to the amount of problems that I had with this game.ġ0h 20m PlayedDo you love old-school Resident Evil and Silent Hill and wish someone would make more? Then buy Tormented Souls. Lastly, there was a critical design flaw with one of the enemies that I won't spoil, but I will say once you figure it out, it really ruins the presence of this particular enemy. The way they presented each reveal and shocking event was great though because most of the time it was done in gameplay and not in a breakaway cutscene which is really good for a horror game since it allows for the player to keep in touch with the controls, be on my guard, and see what was happening next without ever losing that control of my character and losing any fear I had. Story was very interesting and kept me curious with what was going to be revealed next or rather how since I kind of saw the plot twist coming a while before it happened. The puzzles are pretty well done with lots of variety to them to the point where you'll defintley need a guide for some and then others you'll want to try your hardest to figure out and most were overall fun to do, I especially loved the combination key puzzles and thought that was the most fresh idea out of the puzzles. It was frustrating then especially since I hadn't saved in a while. I escaped unscathed, but when I got back in the monster was facing the other way and I got hit by his previously ineffective animation that went fully through when I walked through the door. One glitch that happend to me was that there was an enemy that was chasing me and right as I got to the door he started his hit animation as I went through the door. One quirk about the game though is how when moving something, everything in the room freezes like they are put in chaos control, its strange and looks kind of goofy. Graphically the game looks fantastic and the character models look good for there only being a few of them, the monsters especially look scary and consistently frightend me throughout. Voice acting is very mixed as I thought the main character's voice was ok but could have been better with how she said certain sentences and it felt like she was reading a script sometimes, everyone else though was good although the translation sometimes makes it confusing to follow what they are saying since the character will say one thing and the sentence at the bottome will be something slightly or even completely different. Sound effects wise I can say the game is inconsistent on, some are just right in terms of the tone they are going for and some are way too loud like a rusty door near the end of the game. There are also several different enemy types to keep the game fresh and I loved how it played with my expectations of sight and sound in regards to them. The music can however stop at times and take a while to start up, I also found some songs that seem to overlap themselves and becoming muddled and weird for a couple of seconds and that was always very strange and unsettling to hear, i'm not sure if that was intended? Combat is very satisfying with a nail gun, shotgun, and another really cool weapon you can use, you can also dodge while aiming to help out when you're cornered and adds skill to the game. The sound in this game is also great for the most part, the music is absolutely beautiful and very nightmare inducing when it wants to be with the save room having its classic calming tune and different enviorment themes playing different sound effects to add to the tension. The game kept surprising me throughout with how much it changes up this formula however and adds to it in truly unique ways like how you can't shoot or hit enemies if its too dark and instead having to lead enemies to the candles you light up to actually take them out. What really got me excited especially was the return of TANK CONTROLS which I absolutely loved and really like how it's an option to play the game alongside 360 controls, I just had to use the tank controls and it felt the whole time like I was playing a true love letter to classic horror games. 14h 9m PlayedThis game blew me away with how faithful it was to the old school survival horror mechanics and gameplay with the fixed camera angles and heavy puzzle solving.
